A science-backed guide for doctoral students with ADHD - diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or just quietly suspecting.

Stop fighting your brain through your PhD. Start working with it!

You're not "bad at PhD."

You're not unmotivated.

And you're definetely not the only one sitting at your desk at 11 pm wondering why everyone else seems to be making progress while you're still staring at the same paragraph you opened three hours ago.

You're a researcher with a brain that works differently - trying to survive inside a system that was never built with you in mind.

If you've lost an entire afternoon to what felt like nothing... if you've read the same sentence so many times the words stopped meanining anything... if you feel this strange, heavy paralysis before sitting down to write, and you can't even explain why, I made this workbook for you.

What's Inside

The PhD Focus Workbook is a 6-module, interactive digital workbook built on neuroscience research and real coaching strategies for doctoral students with ADHD.

This isn't a planner. It's not another to-do list template or a productivity system. It's a guided, hands-on framework for finally understanding how your brain actually works - and rebuilding your entire PhD approach around that truth.

The Six Modules

Module 1 - Understanding Your ADHD Brain

Before you can work with your brain, you need to understand it. This module breaks down what's actually happening neurologically when you can't focus - and why no amount of willpower or discipline will ever fully fix it.

Module 2 - Hyperfocus & Interest-Based Attention

Your brain doesn't run on importance or logic. It runs on interest, novelty, and dopamine. In this module, you'll map your natural focus landscape, figure out what genuinely activates your attention, and learn how to build "dopamine bridges" to the tasks that don't naturally excite you (hello, methodology chapters!)

Module 3 - Time Blindness & Working Memory

If deadlines always seem to sneak up on you, no matter how many reminders you set - this one is for you! You'll discover your personal time multiplier, understand why your working memory keeps dropping the ball, and build an external brain system that quietly holds everything your mind can't.

Module 4 - The 17-Minute Focus Reset

A simple, research-backed interoception protocol that can genuinely reduce attentional gaps over time - not just in the moment. Includes a 7-day habit tracker so it actually sticks, not just feels good on day one.

Module 5 - Movement, Body & Your Workspace

Your environment and your nervous system are in constant conversation. This module helps you design a focus-friendly workspace and a movement-first pre-writing ritual that gets your body and brain on the same page before you even open your laptop.

Module 6 - Your Weekly PhD Focus Plan

Pull everything together into a flexible, personalized weekly planning system - with an end-of-week reflection practice built in so you can keep moving forward without running yourself into the ground.

Who This is For

  • PhD students who suspect ADHD id part of their story - formally diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or still figuring it out

  • Doctoral researchers who are genuinely capable and still somehhow struggling to make consistent, visible progress

  • Anyone who has typed "ADHD PhD student" into Google at midnight - and felt, for the first time, like someone actually gets it

What You'll Walk Away With

  1. A clear, grounded understanding of how your ADHD brain actually operates inside a doctoral context - without the shame spiral

  2. Practical exercises you can start using today, not someday when you finally feel ready

  3. A personalized weekly PhD focus system that's built around your brain

  4. The language to stop blaming yourself - and start problem-solving instead

A Note from Me

I'm Maria Stefanidi - a PhD ADHD-informed coach.

I'd been working with doctoral students for years.

I thought I understood why they struggled - the pressure, the isolation, the endless self-doubt.

Then my oldest son was diagnosed with ADHD.

And something shifted that no training course could have given me.

Because I wasn't just reading about ADHD anymore.

I was watching it unfold at my kitchen table every single day.

I saw a kid who could build entire cities out of LEGO, from pure imagination, no instructions, but who fell apart after ten minutes of homework.

Who could retell a film scene by scene with the precision of a film critic, but forgot his lunchbox so many times I stopped counting.

Who would disappear into the things he loved for hours, completely absorbed, and then hit a wall the moment something felt dull or pointless.

It was fascinating and heartbreaking and clarifying, all at once.

And then I started hearing him in the students I work with.

➡️ "I know exactly what I want to write - I just can't make myself start."
➡️ "I look up and three hours have vanished. I have no idea where they went."
➡️ "I work in these intense bursts and then crash completely. I can't find a middle gear."
➡️ "I've tried every system. Planners, apps, timers. Nothing holds past the first week."

These weren't students who lacked discipline or drive.

They were students whose brains were working differently in an environment that wasn't built for them, and nobody had ever named it.

The same executive function patterns I was learning to support at home, I was seeing play out inside PhD programs every day.

This realization has changed how I coach, what I build, and what I talk about!

This workbook is my attempt to put the most valuable pieces into your hands.
