The ABC for your PhD with ADHD

A free 26-letter field guide for doctoral researchers whose brains work differently.

Some Mondays the doctoral researchers I work with open their laptop, stare at their thesis, and do exactly nothing for two hours.

Then they call themselves lazy.

They're not lazy.

They have ADHD brains trying to do a PhD.

I made this alphabet for them.

What's inside

26 letters. One for every part of the doctoral experience that feels different when your brain works this way.

Avoidance.
Feedback and RSD.
Hyperfocus.
Movement.
Overwhelm.
Supervisors.
Time blindness.
All the way to Z.

Each letter is short. Two or three lines you can read on a bad day when you can't take in anything longer. Some are tools. Some are reframes. Some are just a coach in your corner reminding you what's actually going on.

Who this is for

You're doing a PhD, a research masters, a doctorate, an EdD, or you're an early-career researcher trying to survive academia with an ADHD brain.

You've been told you're bright but you don't apply yourself.

You've watched neurotypical colleagues do in an hour what takes you a day.

You've cried before a supervisor meeting.

You've written 4000 words in a single caffeine-fuelled evening and then not opened the document for three weeks.

If any of that sounds like your Tuesday, this is for you.

Why I made this

I'm Maria Stefanidi.

I coach doctoral researchers with ADHD.

It's the only thing I do.

Not neurodivergent coaching in general.

Not academic coaching in general.

This specific intersection, because it's where I've watched brilliant researchers fall out of the system when they didn't need to.

Most academic advice is written by and for neurotypical brains. It assumes you can prioritize, plan, sit still, remember, and switch smoothly between tasks. If any of those assumptions have ever made you feel broken, you already know why this alphabet exists.
